Neda (1982 – June 20, 2009) is an Iranian woman whose fatal shooting on 20 June 2009 provided a rallying cry for Iranians protesting that country's 2009 presidential elections.

On June 20, 2009, at around 6:30 pm, Neda was shot
and killed allegedly by security forces during a protest against the outcome of the 2009 Iranian presidential election.

Neda's death has come to symbolize Iranian resistance to the government's official election results since it was captured on amateur video. Within hours of its being posted online June 20, she had become the iconic victim of the Iranian government crackdown.

Neda was an aspiring Persian popular singer and musician, who was studying her craft through private voice and music lessons. She had studied the violin and had an as-yet-undelivered piano on order at the time of her death. She worked for her family's travel agency.

"It's heartbreaking," President Obama said in Washington, referring to the video of the woman the world has come to know simply as Neda, which means "divine calling" in Farsi. "And I think anyone who sees it knows there's something fundamentally unjust about it."

"She has already become a kind of Joan Of Arc" and "Today I and all of America pay tribute to a brave young woman who was trying to exercise her fundamental human rights and was killed in the streets of Tehran" John McCain Unitedt State Senator June 22,2009

Neda only ever said that she wanted one thing, she wanted democracy and freedom for the people of Iran.
Neda had said that even if she lost her life and got a bullet in her heart, she would carry on.

Remember Neda and all the innocent victims of Iranian state terror.

Rest In Peace Neda

Neda would have been 27 years old today. If she lived in a free country she probably would have been celebrating her 27th birthday with her family. The bullet that killed Neda however made a nation alive and now Neda will live forever as a symbol for people who fight for freedom and democracy.

REST IN PEACE NEDA

DO NOT STAND AT MY GRAVE AND WEEP
I AM NOT THERE, I DO NOT SLEEP
I AM A THOUSAND WINDS THAT BLOW.
I AM THE DIAMOND GLINTS ON SNOW.
I AM THE SUNLIGHT ON RIPENED GRAIN.
I AM THE GENTLE AUTUMN RAIN.
WHEN YOU AWAKEN IN THE MORNING HUSH
I AM THE SWIFT UPLIFTING RUSH
OF BIRDS IN CIRCLED FLIGHT,
I AM THE SOFT STARS THAT SHINE IN THE NIGHTS,
I AM THERE... MY SPIRIT FLIES!

Iran's loss is Heaven's gain!

The murder of Neda Agha Soltan was seen around the world, a beautiful, intelligent and gifted young woman just beginning her life with so many wonderful years ahead of her. Instead her life was taken in a most vicious manner, leaving her parents, family and loved ones with such a deep hole that nothing can ever replace. The senseless murder of Neda and all the victims of the Iranian election protest has been felt around the world, the world knows what is happening over there, we are not fools and we will not be taken as fools nor will your good people. Neda's life was cut short in Iran and Iran will suffer the loss of Neda's contribution to it's society but heaven has gained a beautiful angel, she has joined many that have suffered the same or like fate at the hands of ignorant people. Neda joins Taraneh Mousavi, Dua Aswad,Delara Darabi and so many young women whose lives were cut short through no fault of their own. I never knew Neda but my heart felt such pain when I read and saw what happened to such an innocent young lady.
Thank you for letting me share my thoughts and to her parents and loved ones, my deepest sympathy, this was so wrong!

Neda you opened the eyes of the world with your dead.
